Evolution is caused by the changes that occur in populations of organisms across generations. But how do these changes occur? One of the mechanisms is natural selection.

When these three conditions exist:
- variability,
- differences in reproduction and/or survival,
- inheritance
… natural selection can act, allowing organisms to adapt to new environments.
