La Ciència Al Teu Món and the Evolutionary and Functional Genomics Lab (González Lab), led by Dr. Josefa González, Ramón i Cajal Researcher at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (CSIC-UPF), presented their new Citizen Science project #MelanogasterCTF (Melanogaster: Catch the Fly!).
#MelanogasterCTF aims to bring frontier science closer to high school students, teachers and the general public in small cities in central and southern Spain, and is funded by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and the European Research Council (ERC).
The participating teachers and students will collect, classify and analyze samples that will then be used to carry out the objectives of the European ERC-Consolidator project recently awarded to our scientific director Dr. Josefa González and her laboratory González Lab.
At González Lab, they are very excited about this opportunity to share their passion for science with society, and we are also very excited to be able to be part of such an innovative initiative!
Put yourself in the shoes of a scientist by playing our video games at home!
You can also play with Drosophila specimens (fruit flies) to understand how adaptation by natural selection works, in our interactive:
