Melanogaster Girls and Tech is a technological design and development activity that helps facilitate fieldwork for students and teachers. Citizen Scientists have designed and developed an apparatus that can turn a cell phone into a magnifying glass suitable for fieldwork. Despite the prior existence of microscopes and magnifiers that can be attached to cell phones, none of the models available so far meet the requirements needed to classify the target organisms of this project, the Drosophila fruit fly. In order to promote the incorporation of female students into scientific and technological careers, the campaign will be led by women and is especially aimed at young girls.
